Northern Central Valley Region of California: Short Term Rentals & More
Those portions of California’s Central Valley located north of the Greater Sacramento Area comprise the Northern Central Valley Region. Most of the northern valley is focused on agriculture with vast cattle ranches, fruit and nut orchards, as well as olives groves.
The central valley is shaped like a giant footprint, surrounded by the Coastal Mountains on the West, the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the East and the Cascades Mountains on the North.

The largest cities in this region are Chico and Redding. Chico is the home of California State University Chico and also the headquarters of Sierra-Nevada Brewing Company.
Redding was once dominated by the timber industry, however has made the transition to a service based economy and is a popular retirement area. Redding is also home to the Turtle Bay Exploration Park and the Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay.
The Redding area was originally inhabited by the Wintu American Indian peoples, while the Chico area was home to the Maidu peoples. American settlement began in the mid-1800’s.
