Corporate housing and short term rentals are wonderful ways to avoid the high cost of hotels.
The region also has a strong agricultural base, growing a multitude of crops including fruits, nuts, rice, wine and table grapes. Additionally, livestock and poultry are able to take advantage of the plentiful feed crops and fresh water.
Original inhabitants were from the Southern Maidu and Plains Miwok American Indian peoples. John Sutter established Sutter’s Fort where gold was discovered in 1849 resulting in a huge influx of American immigrants.
