San Mateo in the San Francisco Bay Area has an almost perfect climate. It is not far from Redwood City which, along with the Canary Islands and the North African Mediterranean Coast, was nominated as having the world’s best climate in a study undertaken by the US and German governments just prior to WWI. 
So it is a great city to stay in if you are looking for a place for a few weeks or months when on business in the area.
Some people on such trips would automatically think of staying in a hotel but living out of a suitcase in a cramped hotel bedroom for several weeks is no fun at all.
