The city is located in Stanislaus County, and is nestled in the heart of California’s Central Valley. Turlock short term rentals can be difficult to find. So, let the experts at Key Housing assist you in finding and furnishing the perfect temporary home.
Situated about 93 miles south of the state capital of Sacramento at the intersection of California State Highways 99 and 165, the city affords close proximity to Interstate I-5 and State Highways 33, 132 and 140. Nearest communities are Modesto (to the northwest) and Merced (to the southeast). It is the home of California State University Stanislaus (CSUS).
Incorporated in 1908, the city grew and developed in the midst of a heavy agricultural region. Benefiting from the influx of a diverse mix of ethnic and cultural residents, the city prospered through the 20th century and at one point was known for having the most churches for any city its size in the United States. In 1960, California State University Stanislaus opened its doors for the first time, helping to spur the city’s growth. In the 1980s and beyond, the city underwent extensive growth in both its residential and commercial areas, concurrent with a statewide boom in housing demand and construction as well as a spillover effect from growth in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The city is replete with things to see and do. The Turlock Historical Museum is located in the heart of the city’s historical downtown district. The Lawton Doll Company is a unique venue where visitors can view first-hand the porcelain doll making process. The Hilmar Cheese Company offers tours, cheese tasting, and insight into the intricacies of the cheese-making process. One of the area’s hidden treasures is the Great Impressions Art and Antiques Gallery, home to over 2,000 original works of art in a large variety of styles. Theatrical and musical performances can be found at the Turlock Community Theatre and on the CSUS campus. Art gallery displays are available at the Carnegie Center and West Main Art Gallery.
