Factoid
Venice’s development began with a vision for a carefully planned city. In 1925, Dr. Fred Albee hired city planner John Nolen to design Venice. Later that year, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers purchased the land, and Nolen revised his city plan for the organization in 1926.
Venice incorporated as a town in 1926 and officially became the City of Venice in 1927. That same year, the Venice Train Depot was completed. The opening of the Tamiami Trail between Tampa and Miami in 1928 added another important transportation connection during the community’s early development.
