Sonoma County Region: Short Term Rentals & More
Napa produces world famous wines, however, of the two areas, the Sonoma County Region is the largest producer of California wine grapes. The region contains prime agricultural lands, as well as the urban cities of:
- Santa Rosa
- Rohnert Park
Viticulture (wine-making) and Tourism are the primary drivers of the economy, which is heavily service oriented. Major employers include Kaiser Permanente, Agilent Technologies, and Medtronic Cardio Vascular.
Region geography includes a rugged that climbs up rolling hills into the fertile inland valleys of the North Coast Mountain Range. Open lands are prized and the area is a hikers, fisherman and wine lovers paradise.
Originally populated by the Pomo, coast Miwok and Wappo American Indian Peoples, the region was first settled by Russians in 1812 at Fort Ross on the California Coast. The Spanish followed by establishing their northernmost Mission San Francisco Solano in 1823. The United States gained possession in 1848 after a brief period of Mexican rule.
